South Wimbledon Community Centre was formerly known as Haydons Road Boys School and then later All Saints School until the school moved to its new site. The Centre then changed to a community centre in the early 80's.
The Brass War Memorial in the the Communal Lounge was funded by a former pupil of the school to commorate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in both World Wars.Children from the current All Saints School attended the unveiling along with the Mayor and members of the Civilian and Military Services.
There is also a replica of the First World War memorial for those former pupils who died while serving in the Battle of the Somme. This can be seen from the highway at the new site of the All Saints School in East Road, South Wimbledon.
The site of the Community Centre was part of the estate, known as Merton Place, where Lord Nelson lived prior to the Battle of Trafalgar. Some of the rooms at the Centre are names associated with Admiral Nelson, such as Victory, Wellington and Hamilton.
The Annexe is named after Ernest Patterson, who was one of the founder members, and also a former Abbey Ward Councillor, at the time the Community Centre inception in 1981.
In 2012 the community centre was reduced to the Annexe Building only as the rest of the site and adjoining youth centre is in the process of being returned to primary school use.
In 2012 SWCA took on the lease of Merton Hall (a former masonic lodge) to enable them to continue providing space and activities for the local community.
